terrestrial vascular plants biodiversity species richness

- Field data collected from South-east Queensland and Tasmania as part of the study investigating biodiversity and species richness in eastern Australia.

Vertical Range (height): 113–1090m

2021-06-21 – 2022-02-13

- Field sites were selected based on data gaps, targeting locations where fewer than 50 observations had been recorded from the 295 identified sites. All native vascular plant species encountered within a 10 × 2 m transect were recorded for 18 protected-area sites between June 2021 and February 2022. Individual transects were located at least 10 m away from any creek, river, gully, path, track, road, or park border to reduce edge effects, such as increased introduction of invasive species, and avoid surveying areas that did not represent the vegetation community that was seen at large within the protected area. A minimum of 100 observations, inclusive of sensitive species, were accumulated per protected area. Where required, each new transect within the same protected area was established within 50 m of the previous one to reduce any new environmental variables unseen in the previous transect. All observations were identified to the lowest taxonomic level possible using reference material from the Australasian Virtual Herbarium (Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria, 2022a), Global Plants on JSTOR (ITHAKA, 2022), Mangroves to Mountains (Leiper et al., 2008), Rainforests of Australia's East Coast (Krisch, 2019), Plants of Subtropical Eastern Australia (Benwell, 2020), A guide to flowers & plants of Tasmania (Launceston Field Naturalists Club, 2008), Rainforest Plants of Tasmania (Collier & Howells, 2007), Woodland wildflowers of Tasmania (Collier & Howell, 1990), and PlantNET (Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust Sydney, n.d.).
